NEW SUFFOLK, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- A Long Island woman won a seat on her local school board, but she never even ran for the seat in office.

As WCBS 880’s Sophia Hall reported, Lauren Grant, 75, got some shocking news Wednesday upon finding out she won a seat on the school board in the small district of New Suffolk.

But Grant never campaigned. Instead, she was a write-in candidate.

Grant told Newsday she still does not know if she will accept.

She believes she won because she was active in the decision-making process regarding the district’s only schoolhouse, which serves 12 students.
