NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — The Long Island Rail Road has unveiled a new lactation pod at Atlantic Terminal to accommodate breastfeeding moms on-the-go.

The LIRR says the railroad's first laction pod, which opened just this past August in Penn Station, was a huge sucess.

Over 500 people have used it so far.

Evelyn Chang-Fritz, mom to Olympia, calls the pod in Atlantic Terminal, a game changer.

"To provide sustenance for my child in a space with dignity is so critical to me as a working mother," she said.

Sam Hart of Mamava, the company that provides the pods, says the goal is to make moms comfortable.

"They can control the lighting and the fan speed. They can rate the units on comfort, convenience, cleanliness," he said.

LIRR President Philip Eng says activists and moms in the community support the initiative.

"This lactation pod is a great addition for nursing moms who start or end their trips through Brooklyn or need to make connections to other parts of the city and Long Island. The program at Penn Station has been so helpful for mothers who deserve to have a private, clean area to provide food for their babies,” said Eng.
