BOUND BROOK, N.J. (WCBS 880) — A man has been charged with arson following a large fire Sunday that damaged or destroyed several buildings in Bound Brook's downtown district.

Prosecutors say 28-year-old Juan Hector Padilla was seen walking near the building, known as the Meridia II, several times leading up to the fire.

"Further investigation revealed that defendant Juan Hector Padilla was the individual responsible for the fire at the Meridia II building," Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson said.

He is also charged with hindering investigation apprehension/false information.

No major injuries were reported in the blaze.

The cause of the fire is ongoing.
