ASBURY PARK, N.J. (WCBS 880) -- There was an uproar at a Jersey Shore restaurant when a diner found something unsavory in his girlfriend’s fish dish.

As WCBS 880’s Steve Burns reported, there is no questioning it from the video that Jim Guinee recorded. The video shows a pale, almost translucent worm crawling through a codfish dinner that Guinee’s girlfriend had ordered from Stella Marina Bar & Restaurant in Asbury Park.

“It appears to be a parasite that lives in some fish that can be killed with, I guess, flash freezing, or if the fish is cooked properly,” Guinee said.

Guinee said his girlfriend had already eaten half the dish, but so far, she still seems to be OK a few days later.

The restaurant took the dinner back and compensated the party, but that is not quite where the story ends. The restaurant then put a post on Facebook, calling Guinee callous and accusing him of trying to destroy the restaurant’s reputation over something that could have happened to anyone.

The restaurant said parasitic roundworms are often found in the guts and flesh of fish, and are occasionally missed upon inspection.

“I was pretty upset, actually kind of disappointed someone would go there,” Guinee said.

The restaurant pointed out that Guinee is an attorney, but he claims that is irrelevant and is not planning any lawsuit.
