FREEHOLD, N.J. (WCBS 880) -- A man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after he got on an NJ TRANSIT train with two rifles and 14 hollow-point bullets in a garbage bag.

Kevin Carter of Keansburg was taking the train from Hazlet to Asbury Park last August when two conductors saw what was inside the bag and called police.

Police boarded the train in Long Branch and arrested Carter after he tried to pull the emergency stop in an attempt to get away.

Carter must serve at least five years before he is eligible for parole.
