VERONA, N.J. (WCBS 880) -- A fertility clinic in New Jersey is being accused of a mix-up after a white couple gave birth to a child with Asian features.

Unable to conceive on their own, Kristina Koedderich and Drew Wasilewski in 2012 turned to the Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Science at St. Barnabas Medical Center.

A year later, they had a child through in-vitro fertilization.

"About two or three years later, the child started having Asian features and my clients are both caucasian," attorney David Mazie said. "A DNA test was done and it was determined that the sperm was absolutely someone else's."

The couple's confusion and stress led to divorce, and while both parents say they love their child no matter what, Wasilewski tells CBS News he worries about how his now 6-year-old daughter will react when she finds out that he is not her biological father.

"Every day I say, 'Just do the best I can,' and hopefully it turns out okay," he said.

Now, they are suing the clinic after it refused to share medical records with the couple, citing privacy concerns.

In a statement, the clinic told CBS News that the integrity of their treatment processes are paramount and they are taking the matter very seriously.
