New York State Democrats Nominate Letitia James For Attorney General

May 23, 2018 - 7:01 pm

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- New York City Public Advocate Letitia James was nominated by the state Democratic Party Wednesday as its candidate for state attorney general.

James is running for the seat vacated by Eric Schneiderman, who resigned earlier this month within hours of the publication of a New Yorker article in which four women he dated or met romantically accused him of nonconsensual physical violence.

James was nominated at the state Democratic Convention at Hofstra University in Hempstead.

Solicitor General Barbara Underwood was appointed to the post on an interim basis and was voted in by the state Legislature to keep the seat through the end of the year. Underwood is not running to be elected to the seat.

James has said as attorney general that she would fight to “uphold and defend” people’s most basic rights, including voting rights.
