NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — The NYPD is looking for a thief who made off with nearly $1 million worth of jewelry from a Hudson Yards shop on Sunday.

Police say a man, armed with a spray bottle, wore a burqa to cover most of his face when he walked into the Piaget jewelry store and asked to see a $21,000 necklace.

As the clerk handed him the jewelry, he noticed the suspect was holding on to one of the store's watches, authorities say.

When questioned, the man then sprayed the clerk with an unknown substance and fled with the watch and necklace, worth a total of $800,000.

Hudson Yards management sent out an email to other stores warning them to be alert should the suspect try to strike again.

Anyone with information in regard to the identity of the male is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
