NYPD Takes Down Drug Dealers In 11-Month Investigation At Queensbridge Houses

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- The NYPD on Thursday announced a drug dealer takedown in the city's biggest public housing complex.

As WCBS 880's Steve Burns reported, NYPD Inspector Don Boller said in 2016, there were no shootings at all at the Queensbridge Houses – the largest housing project in the city and the country.

Last year, there were one or two shootings. But this year, there have been five.

“So we started the investigation because we saw a little spike in violence, and we charged a lot of narcotics there that could be related,” Boller said.

The investigation over the last 11 months -- dubbed Operation The Bridge Is Over -- netted 22 arrests for drug sales and firearm possessions.

“Basically, there was a crack cocaine that was a big part of it, and heroin for the most part, and a little marijuana,” Boller said.

The goal, he said, was to improve quality of life for the nearly 7,000 people who call Queensbridge home.
