NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- NYU Langone Medical Center is growing – with plans to open a brand new building with a separate children’s hospital on June 24.

WCBS 880’s Marla Diamond got a tour Monday.

The first thing visitors will notice at the new children’s hospital is a giant Dalmatian balancing a Toyota Prius taxicab on its nose.

“We think this is going to be a beacon, calling children and families,” said Michelle Lloyd, vice president of the Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital. “They’re always going to know where the entrance is.”

The children’s hospital is set within the brand new Kimmel Pavilion on East 34th Street. It is full of light, artwork, and cutting-edge technology.

“We really are about trying to optimize the patient experience, which ultimately results, of course, in better outcomes,” Lloyd said.

NYU Langone senior vice president Vicky Match Suna said every room is single-bed with 75-inch flat-panel TVs that can do everything from order food to let patients talk to doctors via Skype.
