OCEANSIDE, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- A woman in Nassau County is heartbroken after her dog was killed by a neighbor’s pit bull.

As WCBS 880’s Sophia Hall reported, a large bouquet of flowers was delivered to the Mann residence in Oceanside Monday. It was one of many items given to the family to remember their 8-pound Yorkie named Chloe.

The dog was killed, said Chelsea Mann, after a neighbor’s pit bull viciously attacked the small pooch – killing her – during a walk.

“She was my best friend,” Mann said. “It’s so hard.”

The dog also bit Mann’s mother’s hand. The family is heartbroken, and wants the Town of Hempstead Animal Control to remove the animal, because, they say, it has attacked other dogs in the past.

“It’s just so hard. Everyone loved her. And, you know, you’d see her on the block with a stick in her mouth,” Mann said. “She was just such a people person. She loved everyone.”

When WCBS 880’s Hall went to the pit bull owner’s house, a dog was barking nonstop at her through the front window, and no one answered the door.

The Town of Hempstead is looking to get a judge to grant a dangerous dog proceeding.
