NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A new report says more than 200 school districts across New York State do not have a single teacher of color.

Politico reports roughly one quarter of the state’s school districts do not have a diverse teaching staff.

In fact, the composition of the state’s teachers has not changed since 2011, even though the student population has diversified.

In many upstate regions, people of color make up less than 5% of teachers.

Statewide, black and Hispanic teachers each make up less than 10% percent of the workforce. The numbers for Asians or Native Americans are even smaller.
