NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A Pace University student from Staten Island spent at least a week in a Russian jail facing drug charges for having medical marijuana.

Audrey Lorber, 19, was arrested at an airport in St. Petersburg when border agents allegedly found 19 grams  of marijuana on her.

She had a prescription on her, but prosecutors say it's not valid in Russia and she reportedly pleaded guilty to drug possession charges.

On Saturday, Rep. Max Rose tweeted, "I’m working to help get Audrey home as soon as possible because no American citizen should be held in jail for a medical condition."

The State Department says it's aware of the situation, but could not comment further.
