NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Mets star Pete Alonso took to social media to share words of encouragement Wednesday amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Alonso sent personal videos of gratitude to medical professionals and first responders working hard day in and day out against the coronavirus pandemic.

In the video posted on Twitter, the player expressed his gratitude for all the work they continue to do.

“I just want to say thank you so much for the time and effort that you’re putting into this and thank you on behalf of everyone because you’re part of a bigger picture trying to help prevent this disease,” he said.

The surprised reactions on the medical professionals and first responders, who happened to be Mets fans, was notable and spirit lifting.

Alonso went on and thanked them again for protecting and keeping their communities safe as they work tirelessly to combat the Coronavirus.

The MLB season is delayed indefinitely due to the pandemic.

Alonso stepped up to the plate a few weeks back along with Mets manager, Luis Rojas to send words of encouragement to another lifelong Mets fans, battling lung cancer.
