NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A man arrested in California last week might be connected to a string of murders in the New York City area.

As WCBS 880’s Peter Haskell reported, Danueal Drayton, 27, had been wanted in the murder of Queens nurse Samantha Stewart, 29.

Drayton later flew to Los Angeles, and has since told investigators there about at least five other murders in New York and Connecticut.

Drayton was arrested for allegedly raping and choking a woman in Los Angeles. NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea spoke about the suspect last week.

"This individual is known to us and it is believed by us that this individual uses dating websites to meet woman and victimize these women," Shea said.

A police source said they are waiting on forensic evidence to determine whether Drayton is linked to other crimes.

Drayton refused to leave his cell for a court hearing.
