NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — An upstate politician running for re-election was reportedly caught on camera replacing his rival’s campaign flyers with his own at homes across the area.

Doorbell camera from one homeowner caught Wappingers Falls Highway Superintendent Vincent Bettina walking up to a house about an hour after a volunteer for his rival, Michael Sheehan, was seen leaving literature.

The politician appeared to look at the flyers for a moment before ripping it down and replacing it with his own material, according to News 12.

The homeowner, who wished to remain anonymous, told News 12 that she felt violated that somebody would “take her property without permission.”

She notes that she is considering working with law enforcement and is considering pressing charges – adding that not only was it theft, but also a violation of election law.

Volunteers for Sheehan told the New York Post they checked neighbors’ homes and found campaign material missing there as well.
