RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — Authorities on Long Island are searching for the person responsible for throwing an 8-week-old puppy out the window of a moving vehicle this week.

A witness to the horrific act called the Suffolk County SPCA, which rescued the pit bull mix from Route 25 near Calverton Cemetery in Riverhead on Dec. 11.

The puppy was allegedly thrown from the window of a dark-colored SUV with New York license plates while the vehicle was heading eastbound on Route 25. The plates began with letters TZR.

The puppy was taken to an animal hospital nearby and cared for.
