Push On For Greater Protections For Transgender People In Nassau County

MINEOLA, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- A push has been launched in Nassau County to protect transgender residents.

“There is no recourse for someone of trans experience if they’re fired from their job, or if they’re denied housing, because they’re transgender,” said David Kilmnick, president of the LGBT Network.

Kilmnick said that could all happen to transgender people in Nassau County if protections are not added to the human rights law there.

“It’s about time that Nassau County’s transgender families and individuals have the same rights and protections as every other Nassau County family,” he said.

Suffolk County, as well as New York City, Albany, Westchester and other counties, already passed laws protecting transgender individuals from discrimination.
