Report Says Bloomberg Plans To Run For President As Democrat In 2020

September 13, 2018 - 9:09 pm

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A British newspaper reported Thursday night that former Mayor Michael Bloomberg is preparing a 2020 presidential run as a Democrat.

A source told The Times: “Mike Bloomberg told me he is going to run in 2020. He has the money to see it through while other candidates knock themselves out.”

Bloomberg, 76, was New York City mayor from 2002 through 2013. He ran as a Republican his first two terms and as an independent in his third.

He also weighed presidential runs in 2008, 2012, and 2016.

A source told CBS2 Political Reporter Marcia Kramer in June that he was considering running in 2020 as a Democrat. A source said the move was fueled in part by regret that he didn’t stay in the race in 2016, because he felt he could have won outright or kept Donald Trump from winning.

If he does run, Bloomberg would be the oldest and richest person to seek the job. His fortune is worth $51 million.
