WEST POINT, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — The United States Military Academy continues to search for a 20-year-old cadet who has been missing since Friday afternoon.

West Point says 20-year-old Cadet Kade Kurita was reported missing on Friday, Oct. 18 when he failed to report for a scheduled military skills competition at around 5:30 p.m.

A photo of the cadet was released on Tuesday in an effort to locate him.

Officials say a M4 rifle is also missing, but they do not believe the cadet has any magazines or ammunition.

Authorities say there is no indication Kurita poses a threat to the public, but fear he may be a danger to himself.

State police aided in the search, using a helicopter, K-9 units and drones. The U.S. Coast Guard was also searching the coastline.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the West Point Military Police at 845-938-3333.
