Streetlights Out For Nearly A Year Near LIRR Station In Inwood, L.I.

INWOOD, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- The streetlights near the Long Island Rail Road station in the Five Towns community of Inwood have been out for nearly a year, and residents are fed up.

The lights that are not working are mounted on posts on Pearsall Place. A resident said people hang out on the corner in the dark, and she said she is afraid to go out at night.

“At night, it’s very dark. I see the cops came here; ask, you know, if you see anything and know anything, because they rob people down there,” the woman said.

She is also worried about drug use.

So what is the problem? A Town of Hempstead representative said erosion from Superstorm Sandy is the issue.

The town said it will soon be running its own overhead power lines to the street lights to fix the problem.
