YAPHANK, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- The Justice Department says the Suffolk County Police Department has made improvements in its relations with the Latino community, but it could do better.

Newsday reported Suffolk County police are doing better in policing hate crimes for the first time in more than four years.

There had been questions about how police responded after the killing of Ecuadorean immigrant Marcelo Lucero.

But in the Latino community, there are still complaints that police are disrespectful and fail to provide translation services.
