NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed outside his home Monday on Staten Island, police say.

At approximately 7:18 p.m, officials discovered 16-year-old Shane Kelly unconscious with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Kelly was found by his twin brother who heard the shots and ran outside to find his brother, according to a report from the Daily News.

The report says the brother initially tried to carry his brother to Richmond University Medical Center, which is just a few hundred feet away from their home, but waited for an ambulance instead out of fear that he could make things worse.

EMS transported Kelly to the nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, officials say.

Police have not yet made any arrests. The investigation is ongoing.
