NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A technical glitch distorted Mayor Bill de Blasio's voice as he made a video appearance at a campaign event in Iowa.

The mayor was supposed to deliver a speech to the Iowa Federation of Labor in person on Wednesday.

When his flight was canceled, he instead opted to address the crowd over a video call.

However, some sort of problem with the audio made de Blasio's voice sound like he had just inhaled some helium, drawing laughter from the crowd.

Videos of the high-pitched mayor made the rounds on social media and amassed tens of thousands of views on Twitter.

The Iowa Federation of Labor apologized for the glitch and later replayed the video of de Blasio's speech, this time with his voice sounding normal.
