NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- New Jersey will not allow bets on the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest this year.

The state's Division of Gaming Enforcement says it received several requests to allow sportsbooks to take bets on the popular July Fourth competition, which is held every year on Coney Island, but decided against it.

That's according to a report from

Joey “Jaws” Chestnut, who has taken home the Mustard Belt the past three years, is the favorite to win again this year.

Last year, he chomped down a record 74 franks and buns to take home his 11th title at the annual event.
