“We come a long way, Pride runners. You know, it feels really good for people to be out and expressing themselves and having a good time today,” Jocelyn, from Brooklyn, said. “The goal is support out here. We have a whole lot of support and everything, so it feels really good to be out here.”

For Jocelyn, setting the record was a symbol of the inclusivity that has grown out of the Stonewall Riots, which happened 50 years ago this week.

Lenore Beakey says the fight for progress is the strongest its ever been since she came out as a lesbian in the 1980s. But she has her worries about the current state of LGBTQ affairs in America.

“I’m concerned now, I have to tell you, about our president and some of his people, and the vice president. I know that they don’t have our interests at heart,” she said.
