NYPD: Bike-Riding Bandit Snatching Phones From Young Women

May 25, 2019 - 5:51 pm

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – A bike-riding thief has targeted at least six young women in the Bronx, riding up to them and snatching their phones and other valuables.

The NYPD says the suspect has ridden a black mountain bike in each incident, dating back to early May.

Young women were targeted in all the robberies, and in most of the cases the suspect grabbed an iPhone out of the victim’s hands as she was walking on the sidewalk, according to police.

It wasn’t just phones he got away with – he’s also made off with bank cards, jewelry, headphones and IDs.

The first robbery was back on May 1 and the most recent was on May 23.

Many of the robberies have been in the Little Italy neighbor, particularly around Arthur Avenue, between 180th and 190th streets.

In one instance, the thief grabbed a woman's purse from a table at the Full Moon restaurant on East 187th Street, according to the NYPD.

Police released an image of the suspect on Saturday.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
