NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill Issues 4th of July Safety Warning

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- NYPD wants people to have fun, enjoy the barbecue and the Macy's fireworks spectacular.

But NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill warns people that "If something doesn't look right, if it doesn't feel right, call 911 or tell a cop."

Millions are expected to view the Macy's fireworks show on the East River.

More than 70,000 shells and effects will be deployed from the Brooklyn Bridge and four barges near Pier 17.

There will also be a special “The Wizard of Oz” tribute, for the 80 year old film. 

The half hour show starts at 9:20 p.m.

The Brooklyn Bridge will be fully closed from 2 pm Thursday until 1 am Friday, July 5th.

Manhattan Bridge may have intermittent closures throughout the day Thursday.

Multiple strreet closures can be expected as the Macy's fireworks show draws near.
