July 04, 2018 - 11:59 pm

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- The NYPD marked the one-year anniversary of the death of Officer Miosotis Familia with a candlelight vigil in the Bronx on Wednesday night.

Familia, 48, had been stationed in a mobile command center in the Fordham Heights section of the borough on July 5. Just after midnight, former convict Alexander Bonds approached the vehicle and shot her in the head.

Bonds was shot and killed by responding officers.

Familia’s family, including her three children, gathered outside the 46th Precinct stationhouse on Ryer Ave. at 11:30 p.m. for the vigil.

Earlier, a memorial mass was held at the World Changes Church on Grand Concourse near E. 184th Street.

The street outside the 46th Precinct will also be renamed in honor of Familia, who was posthumously promoted to detective.
