NYPD: Officers Shoot Suspect Outside Queens Bar And Hookah Lounge

March 09, 2019 - 12:14 pm

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A suspect is in custody after an early morning shooting outside of a Queens bar and hookah lounge.

Police say an altercation between two men, ages 32 and 38, at the RRR Bar and Lounge on Liberty Avenue in the Ozone Park section of Queens may have been gang motivated.

During the fight, one man was shot in the foot by the other.

"There was a dispute inside the bar possibly gang motivated. The individual that was shot in the foot seemed to do a heroic act by getting involved and stopping the individual from shooting other people that were coming outside of the establishment." says NYPD Chief of Patrol Rodney Harrison.

Reports say that plainclothes police officers may have seen that shooting and pulled up to the bar where they saw the two men fighting over a gun.

"Officers ordered the suspect to drop the firearm, the suspect refused the demands at which time the officers discharged their firearms," explained Harrison.

The suspect was hit in the arm and torso.

Police also recovered a 9mm gun and a knife at the scene.

Both men who were shot were treated at Jamaica hospital and are listed in stable condition.
