NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — An NYPD officer posed as a family member of a Bronx kidnapping victim to rescue the man from his captor.

NBC4 reports that the victim is a mechanic who was lured to a car by a man who said he was selling his wheels.

The suspect reportedly pulled a gun and later called the mechanic’s family with a demand for $2,500 ransom.

A police officer posed as the victim's brother and pretending to be presenting the suspect with his ransom demand.

When the police confronted the alleged kidnapper, he made a run for it. He didn’t get very far. Police say they recovered a handgun from the waistband of the suspect’s pants.

The victim was roughed up during his 17-hour ordeal, and the victim’s brother tells NBC that the suspect “was doing crazy drugs” and “they got into two accidents.”

The arrest was made Wednesday on a street in Belmont. The suspect faces a slew of charges including robbery and kidnapping.
