NYPD: Woman Answering Doorbell Shot In Face By Masked Man

November 25, 2018 - 10:45 am

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – A woman was shot in the face by a masked man while answering her doorbell in the Bronx Saturday night, police said.

The woman’s son reportedly found her lying in her Grand Concourse apartment after the shooting around 9 p.m.

She had a gunshot wound to her face and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

On Sunday, police identified the woman as 45-year-old Wendy Martinez.

It’s not clear if she was specifically targeted or if the shooting was random.

Hector lives in the same building and told WCBS 880 that he heard a "boom."

He says the Concourse Village neighborhood is normally very quiet.

“Nothing happens in this building, in this neighborhood,” he said.

Dwayne echoed that sentiment, saying the area has transformed in recent years.

“Since the Bronx has changed, we’ve gotten a lot better. Crime has gone down and things are looking up for the best,” he said. “This type of thing happens – it’s become rare now.”

The NYPD says no arrests have been made and that an investigation is ongoing.

No description of the suspect has been released by police.
