NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A New York City college is among the top schools with the highest number of sexual misconduct reports, according to a New York Post article.

A new state report showed 100 sexual misconduct complaints were made a New York University in just the first five months of 2018. The Manhattan college fell one place behind Cornell University, which saw 199 incidents between January and May.

It’s believed that one in four college-aged females will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime. In order to combat that number, New York State passed the “Enough is Enough” law, which mandates that colleges must report all instances of sexual misconduct to the state.

The New York Post reports that a total of 1,762 complaints were made at 233 schools statewide in the five-month period.

About 12 students were expelled from their schools are a result of the complaints.

It’s believed the recent #MeToo movement has encouraged more victims of sexual assault to speak up and report the incidents to the schools.

Spokespeople for NYU and Cornell contended that the high number of reports at their schools is a result of better education and prevention programs.
