'Boyz N The Hood' Director John Singleton Dead At 51

LOS ANGELES (WCBS 880) — Oscar-nominated filmmaker John Singleton has died, according to statement from family.

The 51-year-old passed “peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends,” according to a family representative.

His death comes about a week after the “Boyz n the Hood” director suffered a massive stroke after returning from vacation in Costa Rica.

Singleton has been in a coma at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles since suffering the stroke, according to a TMZ report.

The Oscar-nominated filmmaker directed nine films, including “2 Fast 2 Furious” and “Poetic Justice.” He also helped to create the FX series "Snowfall" and directed episodes of "The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story."

In a statement from the family, it was revealed that Singleton suffered from hypertension and urge the public to educate themselves on the symptoms.

Singleton is survived by his mother, Shelia Ward, and seven children.
