Long Island Town To Fix Parking At 2 LIRR Stations

October 26, 2018 - 6:16 pm

COLD SPRING HARBOR, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- More than $11 million is being designated to improve parking at two Long Island Rail Road stations.

Some of the money will be go toward building a parking garage, adding 150 spots at the Cold Spring Harbor station.

"It's imperative that we make that commute as easy as possible and as comfortable as possible by providing additional parking," State Sen. Carl Marcellino said.

The new structure will be especially welcome during the winter months.

"By providing a parking garage we eliminate the problems of snow clearance. If it snows and it covers the ground, it eliminates that need to plow all of these stalls and we lose a lot of the stalls when we do that because you gotta pile all the snow up some place," Marcellino said.

The state grant money will also help parking lots at the Huntington train station and renovating the elevator in the parking garage.

The Town of Huntington supervisor said the work will begin in the next three months and the work should be completed within the next 10 months.
