Parkland Survivor Meets With Administrators After Walkout Leads To Suspensions

March 24, 2018 - 11:06 am

MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- A Parkland, Florida survivor met with administrators from a Long Island school district after the district gave in-school suspensions to students who walked out to honor the 17 victims who died.

Gwyneth Bishara told WCBS 880, the only way change will happen will be because of students speaking out.

That's why the sophomore at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida said she was upset when she found out administrators at the Massapequa school district disciplined students who walked out of class on March 14. The students received in-school suspensions.

"These kids are supporting us, these kids are just like us. These kids are scared to go to school because these schools are not safe anymore," she said.

After a meeting with administrators she said they told her it was for security reasons that the student received the suspensions.

A spokesperson for the district told WCBS 880 the meeting was not opened to the media. Bishara will attend the March for Our Lives rally in New York City.
