NEWARK (WCBS 880) -- A Paterson, New Jersey police officer on Wednesday pleaded guilty to drug possession with the intent to sell – including some drugs he stole from a crime scene while on duty.

Investigators said Officer Ruben McAusland sold heroin, cocaine, and marijuana on several occasions to someone cooperating with law enforcement.

Prosecutors said McAusland also admitted attacking a patient in a hospital - leaving the man with an eye injury that required surgery.

McAusland issued the plea in U.S. District Court in Newark. He faces several decades in prison when sentenced in October.
