Permanent U.S. Military Base May Be Coming To Poland

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A plan to build a permanent American military base in Poland could soon be finalized.

As WCBS 880’s Kevin Rincon reports, officials jokingly offered to call it Fort Trump, but the idea of the U.S. military base in Poland is being seriously considered because of growing threats from Russia.

“With Russia being aggressive towards Ukraine and some neighbors, Georgia in the south, and like there is a Roman saying,’ si vis pacem, para bellum,’” said Police Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. “If you want to have peace, you have to be prepared for war.”

Morawiecki notes that Polish officials currently feel safe and are also trying to play it safe.

“Three years ago there were only 500 soldiers on the police from NATO. Today there are close to 5,0000 soldiers,” he said.

He says they've talked to the Department of Defense, State Department, and the Trump administration about a permanent military base and those talks have been positive.

In fact, President Donald Trump is reportedly set to travel to Poland later this year.
