Reports: Pete Alonso Gets Onto Mets Roster

March 27, 2019 - 12:53 pm

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Pete Alonso is reportedly heading to the majors.

Citing a source, Mets beat writer Anthony DiComo tweeted that the rookie first baseman, who made quite the impression at spring training, will be a member of the team's Opening Day roster.

DiComo says the Mets will be starting Alonso in the majors despite service time considerations.

During spring, the team had vowed to bring their top 25 players up north.

Alonso hit .352 with four home runs and 11 RBIs. He also had a .387 on-base percentage and 1.006 OPS.

The Mets begin a new era in Washington as they take on the Nationals in their season opener on Thursday.

Cy Young Award-winner Jacob deGrom will be on the mound after agreeing to a 5-year contract extension.
