Small Business Spotlight: Fireworks By Grucci Makes A Bang Beyond 4th Of July

July 03, 2019 - 5:00 am

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- It wouldn't be Independence Day without fireworks!

On this week's Small Business Spotlight, sponsored by BNB Bank -- "Community banking from Montauk to Manhattan," Phil Grucci sits down with Joe Connolly to discuss the "Fireworks by Grucci" family business.

The Gruccis have dazzled the skies across the globe since 1850.

They always have a large presence on the 4th of July throughout the Tri-State and the country. They also perform at presidential inaugurations, the Olympics, New Year's Eve, and hold the Guiness World Record for the "largest fireworks display."

Grucci tells Connolly that they have developed new revenue streams beyond fireworks.

"Typically 4th of July was 70 percent of our overall revenue on the fireworks side, now on the 4th of July it's about 40 percent and New Year's Eve has become our second big bell curve throughout our year in revenues," Grucci said. "We also diversified our company and 60 percent of our revenue is actually on the manufacturing of the Department of Defense materials -- training devices and certain components for munitions."

They have a factory in Virginia where 165 employees manufacture explosives for the Department of Defense.

They also have a factory upstate and their headquarters are on Long Island.
