NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- The opera world has been rocked by accusations of sexual misconduct against one of its biggest stars.

Nine women tell The Associated Press that they have been sexually harassed by Placido Domingo. He is accused of pressuring them into having sex with him by promising them roles and punishing those who refused his advances.

One accuser told the Associated Press Domingo stuck his hand down her skirt and three others said he forced wet kisses on their lips.

In a statement to the AP, the 78-year-old Domingo called the allegations "deeply troubling, and as presented, inaccurate."

He said he recognizes that "the rules and standards by which we are — and should be — measured against today are very different than they were in the past."

While he said he believed all his interactions and relationships were "welcomed and consensual," Domingo said that "it is painful to hear that I may have upset anyone or made them feel uncomfortable."
