NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- The NYPD has arrested a man who they say broke into a Brooklyn home and raped an 11-year-old girl Wednesday.

Julio Ayala, 18, was arrested at around 2 p.m. Saturday, after a police chase on foot ended at a construction site on Flatbush Avenue.

Witnesses who knew about the rape allegations crowded around the construction site as cops brought Ayala out in cuffs.

“They have to be exiled, they have to be exiled from society,” one man who witnessed the arrest said.

Police said the heinous attack happened when after Ayala broke into the girl’s second-floor bedroom, after pushing in an air conditioning unit, at 11:30 p.m. in the Prospect Lefferts Garden section of the borough.

According to authorities the 11-year-old victim was asleep when she was attacked. By the time she woke and cried out for her parents, Ayala had already fled.

The victim’s parents called 911, who transported the girl to a nearby hospital to be treated.

Surveillance video was later released by police showing the attacker trying to conceal himself with a sweater after the incident, on Flatbush Avenue and Parkside Avenue. A second clip later showed him casually walking away near Ocean Avenue and Church Avenue.

Ayala, a suspected MS-13 member, was charged with rape, burglary, sexual abuse and acting in a manner injurious to a child.
