Police: Mom Ditches Baby Daughter With Stranger After Queens Crash

May 31, 2018 - 8:18 am

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Police arrested a mother who they say crashed her car into a school fence and handed her baby daughter to a stranger before fleeing the scene in Queens.

The crash occurred outside the Elizabeth Blackwell Middle School in Ozone Park around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say 25-year-old Malikah George drove her Honda Civic into a telephone poll and then part way through the school's iron fence.

A witness tells CBS2 she got out of the car, handed her 1-year-old daughter to a bystander and fled.

"I'm in shock. I never heard of such a weird thing in my life, how she had an accident and then she ran and then she went to the hospital to claim the child. That's the most weirdest thing I ever heard," said Rubia Kamal who lives nearby.

George was arrested at Jamaica Hospital where she went to claim her daughter.

She has been charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child, driving without a license, registration or insurance and leaving the scene of an accident.
