NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Police want to be exempt from congestion pricing.

Several police unions say officers using their personal cars shouldn’t have to pay to drive in Manhattan south of 61st Street.

The head of the NYPD’s Captain’s Endowment Association tells NY1 that officers are assigned to where the needs of the service require them to go.

The have no choice as to where they are assigned.

The governor and the legislature passed congestion pricing as part of the state budget but it will be up to a six-member panel to determine how much they’ll charge and who gets exemptions.
