Port Authority May Change Holland Tunnel Holiday Decorations

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (WCBS 880) — The Port Authority might be changing the holiday decorations on the entrance to the Holland Tunnel.

The decorations caused controversy recently over the placing of wreaths and a decoration in the shape of a Christmas tree.

Port Authority heard from Cory Windelspecht, who said the wreaths and a decoration in the shape of a Christmas tree are a distraction.

Windelspecht also said it's possible the arrangement could trigger people with obsessive-compulsive disorder.

In fact, he told WCBS 880 on Wednesday that he heard from another man who claimed to only take the Lincoln Tunnel during the holidays to avoid seeing the decorations.

Additionally, more than 2,000 people signed a Change.org petition urging the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to move the tree that covers the letter "N'' over to the letter "A."

Officials said thousands have responded to a poll on the decorations.

Executive Director Rick Cotton said the results so far could mean that "change is in the air."
