Possible Luring Attempt Reported In New Jersey

October 18, 2018 - 4:10 pm

CLIFTON, N.J. (WCBS 880) -- Police in New Jersey are searching for a man they say tried to lure a 13-year-old girl out of her backyard on Wednesday.

It happened around 3:10 p.m. in Clifton.

The girl told police the man got out of a white van and told her he was there to "deliver a package" and asked her to "come get it" from him. She said the driver stayed in the vehicle and it was the passenger who had gotten out of the van.

Instead, she went into her house, called 911 and took a cell phone video of the van as it drove away.

The teen said she had seen the same van slowly following another girl on her way home from school, according to CBS2.

Police believe the white van is a commercial vehicle and said it has black graffiti painted on the side of it.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Clifton Police Department Communications Center at 973-470-5911 or the Clifton Police Juvenile Bureau at 973-470-5882.

There was also a luring incident Wednesday in Newark. A man allegedly tried to get a 10-year-old girl and her two friends into his car.
