Pro-White Supremacist Flyers Found In Bronx Park

November 09, 2018 - 1:47 pm

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Local officials in the Bronx are condemning white supremacist after “white excellence” fliers were removed Friday from Van Cortlandt Park.

The fliers posted in Woodlawn called on white men to “defend your heritage and stop blacks and the spread of Islam” and asked people to wear a white hat or shirt on a particular day of the week.

“It's just disgusting. People in the community understand that these types of fliers have to be rejected, have to be denounced,” Assemblyman Jeff Dinowitz said. “Hatred and racism have to be denounced always, and the people in this community in Woodlawn, although it's a largely white community, I think are united in disgust of this kind of flier.”

Dinowitz said it’s unfortunate that there has been an uptick in racist, anti-Semitic, Islamophobia and homophobic incidents since January 2017.

In a joint statement Thursday, Dinowitz, Rep. Eliot Engel, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and City Councilman Andrew Cohen drew a direct link between President Trump’s rhetoric and the hate crimes.

The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force said they will investigate the fliers. They are asking that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
