Small Business Spotlight: Queen Of Raw Finds Success In Unused Materials

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- This week's WCBS Small Business Spotlight with Joe Connolly, sponsored by BNB Bank -- Community Banking from Montauk to Manhattan, is on Stephanie Benedetto of Queen of Raw, LLC.

The company takes unused fabrics piling up at factories and resells them so they don't go to waste.

"Queen of Raw is a marketplace that connects all the factories and mills and brands and retailers that are just sitting on right now $120 billion worth of unused fabric and we connect them to the brands and creators who need it, when they need it, at a location there with they need it," Benedetto, winner of the Business Venture Award at this year's WeWork Creator Awards. "We consider it a market maker business, we're giving people access to materials that they never had before. This is stuff like H&M and Burberry in the news just recently that's getting burned otherwise just sits in a warehouse collecting dust. There had to be a better way of doing business so we consider this using technology to give people access to new things."

Because the material is already made, it also saves on thousands of gallons of water that is used in the clothes-making process.

Bendetto said it's "better for people, better for the planet and better for profit."
