PORT CHESTER, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — Westchester County health officials confirmed Wednesday that a raccoon that attacked three people in the area was rabid.

All three attacks happened Sunday in Port Chester.

The rabid raccoon first attacked an 84-year-old woman at the corner of Halstead and Madison avenues before biting a 75-year-old man on Halstead Avenue.

The final victim, a 33-year-old man, was attacked in the backyard of a home on Willett Avenue. It was there that the final victim’s father was able to kill the animal with a shovel.

The animal’s remains later tested positive for rabies.

All three people who were attacked are now receiving treatment.

Officials used the incident to remind residents to stay away from any stray or wild animal that appears to be acting aggressively or strangely.
