NEW YORK 1010 WINS) -- Airbnb is offering free or subsidized housing to health care workers on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic.

"We've heard from countless hosts around the world who want to provide a comforting home to heroic first responders. We are connecting our nonprofit partners, government agencies and others with our incredible host community to work together in these extraordinary times," company co-founder Joe Gebbia said in a statement.

Airbnb homes will have to meet cleanliness standards by Airbnb-selected medical experts.

The program launched in France last week where the government and Airbnb worked together to find 4,000 hosts willing to let medical personnel stay in their homes for free.

The company's goal is to house 100,000 of these workers around the world.

In New York, the Four Seasons Hotel on East 57th Street on Manhattan's "Billionaire's Row" is doing its part in the city's battle against the coronavirus pandemic.

The company that owns the five-star property, Ty Warner Hotels and Resorts, announced on Wednesday that medical professionals -- including nurses, doctors and other medical personnel -- who are helping with the city's response to the potentially-deadly virus will be housed in the hotel for free.

"Our health care workers are working tirelessly on the front lines of this crisis," Ty Warner, the founder and chairman of Ty Warner Hotels and Resorts, said in a statement.

He added, "Many of those working in New York City have to travel long distances to and from their homes after putting in 18-hour days. They need a place close to work where they can rest and regenerate. I heard Governor Cuomo’s call to action during one of his press conferences, and there was no other option for us but do whatever we could to help."

The move has been well-received by the medical community.

Other hotels have joined the Four Seasons.
